With the death of their frontman, doom metal band Doom Metal announced the departure of frontman Chris ‘Climbing the Wall’ Smith on Tuesday.
The announcement came via a Facebook post from the band, which read in part: “I am going to be spending my final days in a wheelchair with my son.
This is the hardest decision I have ever made.
I’m not alone.
I know this is hard.
But we have the strength and determination to fight this.
I am so sorry to the fans.
I love you guys.”
Smith died in September at the age of 43.
His band, as well as the other bands that made up the thrash metal band, Death Cab for Cutie, have gone on hiatus.
Smith had been performing on stage with the band since the mid-2000s.
He left the band in 2009 and in 2013 was released from a rehab facility, according to a statement from his wife.
He began playing in bands like Cannibal Corpse, Insane Clown Posse and Black Flag, but his departure was not in any way related to his mental health issues, the statement said.
